Respi-Rate is a practical application designed for healthcare professionals to accurately determine a patient's respiratory rate.
The respiratory rate is typically measured by estimating or counting the number of breaths within a specific time frame, which is then converted to a one-minute respiratory rate.
With Respi-Rate, healthcare professionals simply need to press the "Lungs button" each time the patient begins to inhale. Utilizing its innovative algorithm, the application automatically calculates the respiratory rate.
METHODOLOGY DESCRIPTION
For instance, the "Lungs button" can be pressed at 00:00 (mm:ss) and 00:05, signifying when the patient starts to inhale. The 5-second interval between the first and second breaths results in a calculated respiratory rate of 12 (60 seconds divided by the intervals, 60/5=12).
The application takes into account the user's reaction time, which is the duration between the start of the patient's breath and the pressing of the "Lungs button" in the application. It also considers the standard deviation of this reaction time. Therefore, after each button press, Respi-Rate verifies if the determined respiratory rate can be considered accurate. If not, the application continues to define additional intervals until achieving an accuracy of 95% ± 1 breath per minute, assuming a regular breathing pattern.
For optimal accuracy, it is crucial to consistently press the button during the same phase of the breath cycle, preferably when the patient begins to inhale. It is important not to use this application when the patient's breathing is irregular.
